'Textured fabric bookcovers'
Caroline Marriott.

2018 Course listing coming soon.

Monday 24th to Tuesday 25th July
On this course you will create your own unique fabric using a combination of fibres, threads and a variety of fine gauzy materials. Starting with a base of hessian you will build up a surface using bonding, hand stitching and then finish with a layer of machine stitch. This technique allows you to use up small pieces of precious fabrics and your outcome will depend on the threads and fabrics you bring. Your surface can be rich and crunchy or smooth and subtle. There will be instructions on how to turn the fabric you have made into a book cover, a cushion or a simple bag. The tutor will bring tools for you to use on the course and to buy if you wish. She will also bring a range of materials for you to use.
Bookcovers CAROLINE MARRIOTT started her textile career crocheting stripey jumpers for fellow students at University. She went on to do a teacher training course and for years combined working in school with developing her own work. She enjoys working in a variety of different textile mediums, rag rugging, weaving and stitching. They all come together in the rich colour combinations of her work.
