Thursday 2nd August to Saturday 4th August
Love to create but hate the clutter?
Everything you do in this course fits into its own shoe box. We will start by making an ingenious model theatre which gives
you the opportunity to design stage sets and costumes, paint scenery and make props - and it all packs away into itself. This
can be developed into a peepshow! Then we will make a miniature art gallery with its paintings and sculptures, or a museum
with its exhibits. Further possibilities include boxes inspired by Joseph Cornell, secular shrines, and dolls house rooms. All of these
let you develop your own ideas as architect, designer and artist - in miniature.
There will be a £5 materials fee per student.
MICHAEL HARRISON has published around 50 books for children and adults. He has taught on many Oxford Summer Schools
and teaches for Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education and the WEA. As a child he was
fascinated by miniature worlds, especially in ponds and rock pools. He made model theatres and simple
'dolls houses' for toy soldiers and farm animals. Now he enjoys making and playing with a variety of houses
and theatres for his grandchildren.
