Thursday 2nd August to Saturday 4th August

I will teach the technique of twining to enable the making of small textured woven pods. Twining involves the weaving of two threads using the fingertips, whilst the form is held in the hands. Processes covered will include joining of threads, patterning and developing a form. Students will be encouraged to work in different scales, weaving with string, to working larger pieces using rope. You will be encouraged to think about the use of colour and texture, adding in other threads, resulting in each pod having its own unique qualities. At the end of the course each maker will have a range of completed pods to take away with them and will have learned a range of textile basketry skills.
There will be a materials charge of 6.
Pod Forms MARY CRABB weaves small non-functional decorative objects. Originally learning to make traditional willow baskets, an introduction to textile basketry and the suggestion she try some different materials took her making in a new direction. Working with fine flexible materials, Mary weaves using adapted traditional basketry techniques. She is intrigued by the connections between basketry and textiles.

Course Cost for 3 days 129.
