Monday 29th July to Wednesday 31st July

Rag rugging is a lovely way of recycling used and discarded fabrics and turning them into something beautiful. We will start by making samples using the two most frequently used techniques, hooking and progging. We will experiment with different weights of fabrics and a variety of materials, look at design ideas and consider ways of finishing work. Students will be encouraged to create their own design to make a wall hanging, cushion cover, bag or rug. As well as traditional rag rugging we will look at its contemporary uses and how it can be combined with other textile disciplines.
The tutor will bring tools for you to use on the course and a range of materials for sale.
Rags to Riches CAROLINE MARRIOTT started her textile career crotcheting stripey jumpers for fellow students at university. She went on to do a teacher training course and for many years combined working in school with developing her own work. She enjoys working in a variety of techniques including weaving, fabric collage and beading as well as rag rugging. Her recent work is based around faces and flowers.
