Monday 27th July to Friday 31st July
Using a range of wet and dry media you
will follow procedures designed to help
you make strong and dynamic drawings
to support a more contemporary approach
to impasto painting. The focus at the start
of the week is to build a series of studies
and long drawings made from observation.
The next step will be to work from these
drawings in paint. As well as developing
new 'making' skills you will learn to consider
your work, to select, adjust, de-construct
and re-construct. The emphasis is on
keeping both your drawing and painting
broad, open and informative, combining
technical know-how with 'feeling' the mark.
The materials list will be comprehensive but will be
divided into 'necessary' equipment and 'optional'.
No costs for materials provided by the tutor.
JANE STROTHER studied at
Bath Academy of Art and has worked
as a painter, illustrator, printmaker
and teacher. She works from her
studio in Oxford and teaches for a
number of organisations around the
county. 'I am a studio painter. I devise
and build a final image through many
stages and layers of paint. Once the
subject is established, the form of the
work takes precedent. I am excited
by composition, colour proportion and
value relationships, the quality of a
mark and its location.'
