'Making Shaker Boxes'

Students will be guided through the process of making Shaker boxes using traditional methods including crafting the iconic swallow tail joint, using specially made copper pins and fixing the tops and bottoms using the drill and peg method. These oval boxes will be made in American red cherry and each student over the course of two days should be able to make a nesting set of three boxes. Materials cost £15 per box. We aim to make three boxes therefore £45 per student.
shaker MURRAY MARKS has been making Shaker boxes and teaching others how to make them since 2003. He runs courses at West Dean College and the Weald and Downland Museum in Sussex and at the Old Kennels in Devon. Murray has also worked with students at the prestigious Institute of Making in London.
