This one day workshop will bring the outside in! You will make a stitched collage of berries alliums and honesty inside a patterned jug. You will begin by assembling your own “jug fabric” using an eclectic mix of lightweight, patterned and plain fabrics with some lace too if you like. There will be a variety of jug templates to choose from which will guide you when cutting it out your fabric. Using a darker mix of fabrics for the bottom of your picture you will learn how to create depth in your ‘still life’.

Next, you will be taught a variety of free machine embroidery techniques to blend the fabrics together and to add stitched words onto the dark background.

The tutor will have fabrics to choose from to create your display of seed heads and berries. When you’re happy with your arrangement , you will be pin them into place and draw into them with free machine stitching to create areas of shade and highlights. There will be samples showing ideas for adding a few hand stitched stems and seed heads which will contrast to the free machined stitching. To complete the work you will learn how you can finish off your piece using vermicelli stitch. There will be plenty of finished and unfinished samples for further inspiration and ideas - one still life is never enough!
