A day exploring the human face and head.

Through a series of exercises you will begin to learn to build a portrait. Using pencil, charcoal or soft pastel, students will gain confidence in how to build form, understand tone, line and how to create a likeness in their drawings.

The course is suitable for absolute beginners or those wanting to improve their skills. We will work from exercises and images and students are welcome to bring in their own images or photos if they would like to work on a particular person or image later in the day (the larger the image the better).

It is possible to combine this course with Portraits - Drawing, Colour and Tone on Tuesday 1st August.

Materials

Students will need an A3 pad (Daler Smooth heavyweight is a good choice if you don’t have a pad already); Pencil, charcoal and a black and white soft pastel (Unison or Rembrandt are good and can be bought individually from Broad Canvas Oxford or Jacksons Art mail order); A J Cloth and an apron.

Cost to Students
